Bhramari 'Bee Humming' Soothing Breath 〰

Bhramari or Bee-humming is a soothing breathing technique for the nervous system.

The humming sound sends waves of compression and expansion though tissue, fluid and bone dissolving internal barriers. When practiced it induces a meditative state by harmonising the mind and directing the awareness inwards balancing scattered and agitated energy.

It enhances introspection and awakens psychic awareness and sensitivity, alleviating anger, anxiety and cerebal tension. It can lower high blood pressure and promotes healthy sleep patterns.

Technique:

1. Sit in a comfortable meditation position

2. Keep the lips gently closed with the teeth slightly separated throughout the practice. This allows the sound vibration to be heard and felt more distinctly in the brain.

3. Ensure the jaw is relaxed, free of clenching

4. Raise the arms sideways and bend the elbows, bringing the hands to ears

5. Use thumbs to plug the ears, resting the other four fingers on the head or face

6. Inhale through the nose

7. Exhale slowly and smoothly while making a deep humming sound like a bee

8. The humming should sound be smooth, even and continuous for the duration of the exhale

9. The sounds should be soft and mellow, making the front of the skull reverberate.

10. Begin with 5-10 breaths, slowly increase to 10-15 minutes
